No Contact Made: The Flower Project
May 13 - June 2, 2001
Berlin was for me in many ways a very hard, gray and unfriendly city in which I found myself very alone and living as an outsider. I had little opportunity of making contact with others and thus I became intrigued with the idea of making anonymous contact, to break normal routines and to cause a small disruption in peoples day to day lives.
For a period of two months, Fassler staged an on-going daily performance of random and anonymous delivery of flowers. This repetitive action/performance included leaving a bouquet of flowers and a card with the recipients name on a doorstep. (In Berlin it is customary to have nameplate on the door, therefore peoples names are readily accessible). She then took two photographs: one of the door with the flowers and one of the nameplate. Fassler exhibited 36 pairs of large format prints, which hung in a continuum, one after the other.
Larissa Fassler is originally from Vancouver who currently resides in Germany.
